Reduce your total debt. The creditors look at the total debt and how they relate to your earnings. If your debt is high in relation to your income, creditors see you as a risky customer. You don’t have to pay off your debt in full right away, just get a plan and stay with it to pay off your debt over time.
If you’ve hired a credit report company to help you and they insist on a large free upfront, end your relationship. The Federal Credit Repair Organizations Act strictly disallows anyone from asking for fees before a service is actually rendered, so they are breaking the law by even asking for an upfront fee.
